Seven months after the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles launched, and it’s still incredibly difficult for fans to get their hands on either one. A global chip shortage is expected to continue well into 2022, meaning that it could be quite a long time before the next-generation consoles are more readily available. In the meantime, the best bet for consumers is to try to purchase the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles online through stores like Walmart, which will reportedly have a restock later today.

The Walmart PS5 and Xbox Series X restock has not been officially announced and at the time of this writing, the pages for the consoles are showing jacked up scalper prices. However, reports indicate that Walmart is going to have a PS5 and Xbox Series X restock at 3pm ET, where it will apparently be selling both the disc and physical versions of the PlayStation 5 console, as well as both the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.

For those who may not know the difference, the PlayStation 5 Disc Edition retails for $499, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition costs $399. The two PlayStation 5 consoles are virtually identical, with the only real difference being that the Disc Edition has a disc drive whereas the Digital Edition does not. While it would be nice to save $100 and go for the PS5 Digital Edition, this would mean that those with a large PS4 disc library wouldn’t be able to play those games on the new console or take advantage of free next-gen upgrades.

The Xbox Series X, meanwhile, costs $499, whereas the Xbox Series S costs $299. The differences between the Xbox Series X and Series S are more significant than the differences between the PS5 and PS4, as the Xbox Series S is incapable of offering true 4K resolution visuals and has much smaller internal storage when compared to the Series X. However, the Series S is still capable of displaying games at 120 frames per second and it can play all of the next-gen exclusive titles as well.

Anyone attempting to purchase the PS5 or Xbox Series X from the Walmart restock today should note that there is a good chance that bots will purchase all the inventory more or less immediately. There’s also a chance that the Walmart PS5 and Xbox Series X restock will get delayed by a few minutes, which has been known to happen in the past.
