W.P. Kinsella, author of “Shoeless Joe,” which became “Field of Dreams,” which has become an enduring piece of baseball lore, ended his life Friday at age 81 in British Columbia. Maybe his spirit will swap stories with the legends who came out of that cornfield in Iowa (aka heaven, aka the place dreams come true). According to a new study published in JAMA Neurology, your daily step count may offer some protection against dementia. The researchers found that walking between 3,800 steps and 9,800 steps daily may help lower a person’s risk for cognitive decline. For the study, the researchers analyzed data from over 78,000 people between the ages of 40 and 79 who wore a device that measures vibrations and motion (wrist accelerometers) for nearly seven years....
